Doctors test simple scan to guide Life-Saving fluids for sickest kids

NCT ID NCT07494643

Summary

This study aims to validate a simple, non-invasive ultrasound test to help doctors decide which critically ill children on breathing machines need IV fluids. The test measures changes in blood flow in the heart to predict if a child will respond to fluids, helping avoid giving unnecessary fluids that could cause harm. The study will include 60 children in intensive care units who are on a ventilator and whose doctor has already decided to give them a fluid bolus.
