Summary
This study looks at two different IV fluids given during heart surgery to see which one is safer for the kidneys. About 1,292 adults having heart surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either hydroxyethyl starch or a balanced crystalloid fluid. The main goal is to see which fluid leads to fewer serious kidney problems, need for dialysis, or death after surgery.
