New study pits biofeedback against injections for bowel control
NCT ID NCT03811821
First seen Mar 05, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tested two treatments—biofeedback (pelvic floor exercises with guidance) and injectable bulking agents (Solesta)—for people with severe fecal incontinence (leakage of stool). 275 adults who did not improve enough with basic management were randomly assigned to one treatment. The main goal was to see if either treatment reduced accidents by at least 75% after 3 months, while also checking safety and costs. The study aims to help patients and doctors choose the best option.
