Doctors test pioneering womb surgery to save babies with severe lung condition

NCT ID NCT05450653

Summary

This is a small pilot study to test the feasibility of a fetal surgery procedure for babies with the most severe form of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). The procedure involves temporarily placing a tiny balloon in the baby's windpipe while still in the womb to help the lungs grow. The study will enroll 10 pregnant women to see if this approach is safe and can improve survival and outcomes for these high-risk babies.
