Shock therapy for stroke recovery? small study tests electrical boost for weak legs

NCT ID NCT07130929

First seen Dec 16, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether adding functional electrical stimulation (FES) to standard physiotherapy helps people with severe stroke regain leg strength and movement. FES uses mild electrical pulses to activate muscles during exercise. The study will enroll 24 adults with stroke-related weakness from the ICU. Half will get extra physiotherapy alone; the other half will get physiotherapy combined with FES. The goal is to see if the combination improves muscle function better than therapy alone.
