Shocking therapy: electrical pulses may help stroke survivors walk again
NCT ID NCT07130929
First seen Dec 16, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This small pilot study tests whether adding functional electrical stimulation (FES) to standard physiotherapy can improve leg muscle function in stroke patients who developed weakness in the ICU. About 24 adults with severe stroke will be randomly assigned to either extra physiotherapy alone or physiotherapy combined with FES over 5 weeks. The goal is to see if the electrical stimulation helps patients regain strength and movement better than therapy alone.
