Timing of feeding tube may protect muscle mass in esophageal cancer fight
NCT ID NCT06712706
First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study involved 60 adults with advanced esophageal cancer who were scheduled for chemotherapy and surgery. Some received a feeding tube early, at the time of diagnosis, while others got it later during surgery. The goal was to see if early tube feeding helps prevent muscle loss (sarcopenia), a common problem that can lead to worse outcomes. Researchers measured muscle mass at three points: diagnosis, before surgery, and six months after surgery.
