First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study observed 91 ICU patients on breathing machines who needed a tracheostomy. Researchers compared those who continued tube feeding until the procedure with those who fasted for 6-8 hours. The goal was to see if feeding increased the risk of aspiration pneumonia within 72 hours after the procedure. The study aimed to find out if routine fasting is necessary or if continuous feeding is safe.
