Poop transplant trial aims to calm ICU brain fog
NCT ID NCT07348471
Summary
This study is testing whether a fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) can help treat delirium in critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Researchers believe an imbalance in gut bacteria may contribute to brain inflammation and confusion. The trial will give 60 ICU patients with delirium either the FMT treatment or standard care to see if it reduces delirium severity, shortens ICU stays, and improves survival.
