New scan could pinpoint hidden pancreas defect in babies with low blood sugar

NCT ID NCT04205604

First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests a special PET scan (FDOPA) to tell apart two types of congenital hyperinsulinism in babies with severe low blood sugar. The scan helps doctors find the exact location of the problem in the pancreas, so surgeons can remove only the diseased part. About 50 infants will participate to see how accurate this imaging method is.
