Cutting radiation time in half for breast cancer patients

NCT ID NCT00185744

Summary

This study is testing whether shorter radiation treatments given directly to the area where the tumor was removed can work as well as the standard 6.5 weeks of whole-breast radiation. Researchers are comparing four different shorter methods (taking 1-5 days) to see if they safely prevent cancer from coming back. The trial includes 121 women over 40 with early-stage breast cancer who chose lumpectomy instead of mastectomy.
