New PET scan may solve brain tumor mystery: regrowth or radiation scar?
NCT ID NCT05762172
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 31 times
Summary
This study tested whether an early F-DOPA PET scan can distinguish between brain tumor recurrence and radiation necrosis (scar tissue from radiotherapy) in 8 adults with brain metastases. The approach uses a new, more sensitive PET scanner to capture rapid images within 4 minutes of injection. The goal is to improve diagnosis when standard MRI is unclear.
