Eye-Opener: scientists probe cell loss after lens surgery

NCT ID NCT04174924

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study looked at why some patients with special lens implants (phakic intraocular lenses) lose cells on the inside of their cornea. Researchers compared 126 patients having lens removal or routine cataract surgery, analyzing their tears and eye fluid for signs of inflammation. The goal was to understand the cause of cell loss, not to test a new treatment.
