New painkiller may reduce opioid use after ankle surgery

Summary

This study compares two numbing medications, EXPAREL and bupivacaine, injected near the nerves around the ankle before total ankle replacement surgery. The goal is to see which provides better pain control and reduces the need for opioid painkillers afterward. About 104 adults having ankle replacement will participate.
