Can exercise boost walking in Parkinson's patients with muscle loss?
NCT ID NCT07165106
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at whether adding resistance or aerobic exercise to standard rehab helps walking and muscle strength in people with Parkinson's disease who also have muscle loss (sarcopenia). 32 participants were assigned to either resistance or aerobic exercise for 6 weeks. The goal was to see improvements in mobility, gait speed, and strength.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- exercise (resistance and aerobic)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward better exercise programs to improve walking and muscle function in people with Parkinson's disease and muscle loss.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed study with only 32 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Exercise benefits can vary widely between individuals.
