Summary

This trial tests whether a 10-week therapeutic exercise program, including relaxation and stretching, can influence the mode of delivery in first-time mothers aged 35-40 who have a rigid perineum. Participants are randomly assigned to either the exercise program plus routine advice, or routine advice alone. Researchers will compare rates of normal vaginal, instrumental, and cesarean deliveries, as well as pelvic floor muscle tone and newborn health scores.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
therapeutic exercise program (relaxation and stretching exercises)
What this could lead to
If effective, this exercise program could offer a non-invasive way to increase the chances of a normal vaginal delivery in older first-time mothers with a rigid perineum.
What could go wrong
This is a small trial (60 participants) and results may not apply to all women. The exercises may not change delivery outcomes, and individual responses can vary.
