New coated balloon fights heart stent reblocking

NCT ID NCT05731700

Summary

This first-in-human study tested a special balloon catheter coated with the drug everolimus to treat arteries that had narrowed again after a previous stent placement. The study involved 51 participants with re-narrowed coronary stents to assess safety and whether the coated balloon could prevent the artery from re-narrowing. Researchers followed participants for 180 days to measure artery opening and track complications like heart attacks or need for repeat procedures.
