New birth control pill may be safer for your arteries
NCT ID NCT07536763
First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tests if a newer birth control pill (estetrol-drospirenone) has fewer effects on blood vessel health and metabolism than an older pill (ethinylestradiol-levonorgestrel). About 98 women aged 18-49 who want contraception will take one of the two pills for 12 months. Researchers will measure artery function, blood pressure, and blood markers to see which pill is safer for long-term use.
