New birth control pill may be safer for your arteries

NCT ID NCT07536763

First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests if a newer combined oral contraceptive pill (estetrol-drospirenone) has fewer negative effects on blood vessel function and metabolic health than a standard pill. About 98 women aged 18-49 who want contraception or treatment for menstrual issues will take one of the two pills for 12 months. Researchers will measure artery flexibility, blood pressure, and blood markers to see if the newer pill is safer for long-term use.
