New pain block may cut opioid use after kidney surgery

Summary
This study tests whether a special nerve block, called an erector spinae plane block, can reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers after kidney removal surgery. About 66 adults having open nephrectomy will be randomly assigned to get either standard pain relief or the nerve block plus standard care. Researchers will measure pain scores and total opioid use in the first 24 hours after surgery.
