New keyhole surgery for esophageal cancer shows promise in early trial

Summary

This study tested a new surgical technique for esophageal cancer that avoids a large chest incision. 35 patients with early-stage cancer received this less invasive procedure. The goal was to see if it could lower complication rates while still effectively removing the cancer. Results were compared to a similar group who had standard surgery.
