Tiny brain implant could replace bulky shunts for fluid buildup
NCT ID NCT04758611
First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study tests a new device called the eShunt System in 20 adults with communicating hydrocephalus, a condition where too much fluid builds up in the brain. The device is a permanent implant placed through a small blood vessel to drain the extra fluid into the bloodstream, avoiding the need for a traditional shunt. The goal is to see if it safely lowers pressure in the brain and reduces the need for more invasive surgery.
