First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study tested whether a high dose of epoetin alfa, a medicine that boosts red blood cells, could improve brain recovery in people who were in a coma after a cardiac arrest. About 500 adults who had a witnessed heart attack and remained unconscious were randomly assigned to receive either the drug or a placebo on top of standard care. The main goal was to see if more patients in the drug group reached the best level of brain function by day 60.
