Supercharged immune cells take on deadly brain tumors
NCT ID NCT07579208
First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This early-phase trial tests whether specially engineered natural killer (NK) cells can be safely delivered to the brain in people with recurrent glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. The NK cells are modified to better recognize and attack tumor cells while resisting the tumor's defenses. The study will compare two delivery methods—directly into the brain fluid or into the bloodstream—and monitor for side effects.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
engineered natural killer (NK) cells
What this could lead to
If this works, it could point toward a new way to treat recurrent glioblastoma by using the body's own immune cells to attack the tumor.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 36 people, focused on safety. The treatment may not shrink tumors or improve survival, and there could be serious side effects from the cells or delivery method.
Conditions
