First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looked at how many calories people burn through physical activity and whether that affects body weight and diabetes risk. Researchers followed 2,506 Black adults from Ghana, South Africa, Seychelles, Jamaica, and the United States for two years. They used special water tests and activity trackers to measure energy use, and checked weight, diet, and hormone levels. The goal was to see if lower activity levels help explain rising obesity rates.
