Scientists aim to perfect energy tracking with wearables
NCT ID NCT01209572
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether combining heart rate and movement data from wearable devices can more accurately predict how many calories people burn over 24 hours. Researchers will monitor 120 healthy adults in a controlled lab and in daily life. The goal is to create a mathematical model that cuts measurement error from 10% down to 5%.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to more accurate, affordable ways to measure daily energy expenditure using wearable devices.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational modeling study, not a treatment trial. The model may not be accurate for all populations or real-world conditions.
