Breath test may replace risky heart monitoring in surgery

NCT ID NCT06962748

First seen Apr 16, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looked at whether measuring carbon dioxide in a patient's breath can help doctors estimate how well the heart is pumping during non-cardiac surgery. 105 adults having general or lower limb surgery were included. The goal was to see if this simple, non-invasive method could replace the need for inserting a catheter into the heart to measure cardiac output.
