Pausing breaths may help clear CO2 in COPD patients on ventilators
NCT ID NCT07207967
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study looked at whether adding a short pause at the end of each breath (end-inspiratory pause) helps remove carbon dioxide more efficiently in people with COPD who are on a breathing machine. Fourteen deeply sedated adults with COPD took part. The pause did not cause dangerous lung overinflation and improved ventilation efficiency, suggesting it could allow doctors to use gentler breathing settings.
