Shocking hand recovery: new therapy aims to restore grip after nerve injury

NCT ID NCT07532499

First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding EMG-triggered electrical stimulation to standard physical therapy can improve hand function in people who have had surgery to repair a damaged median or ulnar nerve. After surgery, the hand is often immobilized, causing weakness in muscles that extend the wrist and fingers. The study will involve 26 adults and measure grip strength and overall hand function. The goal is to see if this extra stimulation helps patients regain strength and use of their hand more effectively.
