Race against time: new combo tested to halt dangerous seizures in ambulances

NCT ID NCT01150331

Summary

This study tested whether giving two seizure-stopping medicines together (levetiracetam and clonazepam) works better than giving just one (clonazepam alone) for adults having a severe, continuous seizure (status epilepticus) before they reach the hospital. The goal was to see if the two-drug combination could stop the seizure faster and more safely in emergency ambulance settings. It involved 203 adult patients and was a Phase 3 trial, meaning it was a large-scale test of effectiveness.
