Shocking therapy: electricity plus exercise eases stubborn neck pain

NCT ID NCT07375823

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding electrical muscle stimulation to standard exercise therapy helps young adults with cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerve in the neck causing pain, numbness, or weakness). Fifty participants aged 18-29 did 12 sessions over 6 weeks, with one group receiving only exercise and the other receiving exercise plus electrical stimulation on the upper back. The goal was to see if the combination improves neck muscle endurance and reduces pain better than exercise alone.
