Eggs and iron: study tests if whole eggs boost muscle gain in older adults
NCT ID NCT00260442
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study looks at whether eating whole eggs (which contain cholesterol) helps people aged 50-69 gain more muscle from resistance training compared to eating only egg whites. Thirty-six participants will either do weight training or remain sedentary for 12 weeks while consuming eggs or egg whites. Researchers will measure changes in muscle mass, strength, blood lipids, and inflammation to see if dietary cholesterol plays a role in muscle growth.
