Eggs for baby brains: new study tests if a simple diet change boosts neurodevelopment
NCT ID NCT07583186
First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study looks at whether eating more eggs during pregnancy can improve a baby's brain development. Researchers will ask 100 pregnant women to eat 10-14 eggs per week or follow a standard healthy diet. They will measure the baby's heart rate before birth and brain activity after birth to see if the extra nutrients from eggs make a difference.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Eggs (dietary supplement)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that a simple diet change (eating more eggs) during pregnancy supports better brain development in babies.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage study (100 participants) looking at indirect measures like heart rate, not long-term outcomes. Results may not prove a direct benefit or apply to all pregnancies.
Conditions
