Could a common virus be behind failing dental implants?
NCT ID NCT03631849
First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study investigated if the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is linked to peri-implantitis, a serious infection around dental implants that can lead to implant loss. Researchers measured EBV levels in 30 adults with infected implants and compared them to those with healthy implants. The goal was to better understand the cause of this condition, not to test a treatment.
