MRI scans could trigger earlier valve surgery to save hearts

NCT ID NCT03094143

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looks at people with severe aortic stenosis (a narrowed heart valve) who don't yet have symptoms. Researchers use MRI scans to find early heart muscle scarring, which can signal future trouble. Participants with scarring are randomly assigned to either standard care or early valve replacement surgery. The goal is to see if early surgery reduces deaths and hospital stays compared to waiting for symptoms.
