This study looked at whether doing a tracheotomy early (after 5-7 days on a breathing machine) helps patients switch between invasive and noninvasive ventilation and wean off the machine sooner. The trial planned to enroll 200 adults who were expected to have difficulty weaning, but it was terminated early. Key measures included how many days it took to wean, success rates, and length of ICU and hospital stays.
