Pill power: study tests oral antibiotics for blood infections
NCT ID NCT05199324
First seen Apr 17, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares early switching from intravenous (IV) to oral antibiotics versus staying on IV therapy for adults hospitalized with a common type of bloodstream infection (gram-negative bacteraemia). About 720 participants who are stable and not critically ill will be randomly assigned to one of the two approaches. The goal is to see if early oral antibiotics work just as well, potentially reducing hospital stays and treatment costs.
