Ear freeze for back pain? scientists scan brain to find out

NCT ID NCT06825390

First seen Feb 18, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looks at how stimulating specific spots on the ear with a cold burst might help people with long-term low back pain. Researchers will use brain scans (fNIRS and MRI) to compare real treatment to a fake (sham) version. Sixty adults with daily back pain for at least 6 months will attend 4 visits. The goal is to understand how the brain responds, not to provide a cure.
