New pressure test could predict who benefits from swallowing therapy
NCT ID NCT04569097
First seen May 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026
Summary
This study followed 227 veterans with swallowing problems (dysphagia) for 8 weeks to see if measuring throat pressure during swallowing can predict who will improve with therapy. Participants did standard strengthening exercises, and researchers compared their pressure readings, X-ray swallowing tests, and symptom reports to those of healthy veterans. The goal is to create a tool that helps doctors choose the best treatment for each person.
