Dry needling vs. placebo: new study targets muscle knot pain

NCT ID NCT07270276

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looks at whether dry needling can reduce pain in people with myofascial pain syndrome, a condition that causes tender, tight spots in muscles. About 70 adults with a trigger point in the trapezius muscle (neck and shoulder area) will receive either dry needling or a placebo treatment. Researchers will use special muscle tests and daily pain surveys to see if the treatment works.
