Cord blood injection may halt dry AMD progression

NCT ID NCT06536062

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether injecting a special solution made from umbilical cord blood and platelet-rich plasma into the eye can slow or stop the worsening of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a common cause of vision loss in older adults. About 36 people aged 65 and older with dry AMD in both eyes will receive either the injection or a sham procedure. The main goal is to see if the treatment can limit the growth of damaged areas in the retina over time.
