First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looked at medical records from nearly 295,000 older adults with gout to see if two common gout medications, probenecid and allopurinol, affect the risk of developing Alzheimer's or other dementias. The goal was to find out if either drug could be repurposed to protect the brain. The study was completed and used existing data, not new treatments.
