Scientists test Antibiotic's path to stop STIs

NCT ID NCT05853120

Summary

This study aimed to understand how well the antibiotic doxycycline, taken as a pill, reaches rectal and vaginal tissues. Researchers measured drug levels in healthy adults to gather data for designing a future single-dose pill that could prevent multiple sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV. The study did not test if the drug actually prevents infections; it only measured how much of it gets to the relevant tissues.
