Double the shock, double the chance? new trial aims to save more cardiac arrest victims

Summary
This study is testing if a 'double sequential defibrillation' strategy saves more lives after a cardiac arrest. When a patient's heart is in a deadly rhythm and the first standard shock fails, paramedics will immediately use two defibrillators with special pad placements for two rapid shocks. This is compared to continuing with standard single shocks to see which approach leads to more people surviving for 30 days.
