New ultrasound technique may reduce repeat shoulder injections
NCT ID NCT06503302
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using Doppler ultrasound to detect inflammation around calcium deposits in the shoulder can improve the results of a guided injection. 100 adults with chronic shoulder pain and calcific tendinitis will receive an ultrasound-guided injection, with or without Doppler imaging. The goal is to see if the Doppler approach reduces pain more quickly and lowers the chance of needing a second injection.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Doppler ultrasound guidance for injection
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could make shoulder injections more effective, reducing pain and the need for a second procedure.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study. The benefit of Doppler ultrasound for this condition is not yet proven, and results may not apply to all patients.
