First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study will compare two common treatments—aspirin tablets and heparin injections—to see which is better at preventing dangerous blood clots in people who break their hip. Over 21,000 patients aged 60 and older from 96 UK hospitals will take part. Hospitals will switch between the two treatments over time, and researchers will use NHS records to track outcomes like clots, bleeding, and death within 90 days.
