Talking through Life's end: dignity therapy tested in taiwan

NCT ID NCT07150728

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tested whether 'dignity therapy'—a structured conversation where patients share what they want loved ones to remember—can improve dignity and reduce depression in terminally ill adults. 45 patients in Taiwan were randomly assigned to receive dignity therapy or standard hospice care. Researchers measured dignity, demoralization, and depression before, right after, and up to 9 months later. The goal is to see if this simple, non-drug approach can help people face the end of life with more peace and self-worth.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to improve emotional well-being and preserve dignity for people nearing the end of life.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 45 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy is supportive, not a cure, and benefits may vary.
