Can a smartphone app replace physio after hip surgery?
NCT ID NCT07658664
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether a 12-week home rehabilitation program using the Akina app is as effective as standard outpatient physiotherapy for older adults (ages 55-80) recovering from hip surgery. Sixty-six participants will either use the digital program at home or receive routine care. Researchers will measure functional independence, muscle strength, mobility, and quality of life after 6 and 12 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- digitally supported multimodal rehabilitation program (Akina app)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a convenient home-based rehab option that is as effective as standard outpatient physiotherapy for older adults after hip surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small early-stage trial with only 66 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The digital program might not suit all patients, and technical issues could affect outcomes.
