First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This pilot study tested whether a Brazilian heart-healthy diet, with or without added plant sterols and krill oil, can improve cholesterol levels in people with familial hypercholesterolemia (a genetic condition causing very high cholesterol). 58 adults with this condition were randomly assigned to one of four diet groups for 120 days. The main goal was to see if these supplements could lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and lipoprotein(a), a related risk factor.
