NCT ID NCT05695937

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This pilot study tested whether a Brazilian heart-healthy diet, with or without added plant sterols or krill oil, could improve cholesterol levels in 58 adults with familial hypercholesterolemia (inherited high cholesterol). Participants followed the diet for 120 days while taking supplements or placebos. The goal was to see if these additions could further lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and lipoprotein(a), a genetic risk factor. This was a small early study to plan a larger trial.
